Rugged Tablet PCs Drive Safer Law Enforcement

Law enforcement professionals have long sought improved technologies to not only enhance their efficiencies and capabilities but also the safety of officers in the field.  But improved safety isn't as easily achieved by technological upgrades as some might think.  Wireless communications and data transfer, implemented by many law enforcement agencies years ago, aided many aspects but lacked in the safety benefits patrol officers and other field personnel needed.  The introduction of rugged tablet PCs has answered many of those safety questions.

Identification

One of the greatest dangers police officers face is when they deal with dangerous individuals without knowing the actual identity of those persons and what dangers they pose.  By integrating add-on functions to rugged tablet PCs such as biometric readers for fingerprint identification and image capture for facial or license plate recognition law enforcement officers can quickly identify potentially dangerous individuals.  These kind of high-tech identification computing functions were previously only available within police stations and offices, leaving officers in the field at risk without the knowledge of the risks they were confronting.

Situational Awareness

Integrated Command Center

Rugged tablet PCs can also act as integrated command centers, allowing on-site supervisors to utilize their tablets to handle dispatch of personnel and resources, intelligence gathering and coordination of incident responses that can include multiple agencies.  This coordination can include transfer of data, voice communications, images or video while enabling incident commanders the mobility to operate in any environment or weather condition.  By accommodating numerous forms of communication and high-level computing in the field law enforcement personnel are safer and more effective at protecting the public.

Rugged tablet PCs drive safer law enforcement by providing enhanced capabilities, faster delineation of critical information and high level mobile coordination of their efforts.  Additionally, the ability to access multiple databases and communicate with outside agencies better protects police officers from the everyday dangers they confront in the line of duty.
