MobileDemand Offices Closed July 4-5

In recognition of Independence Day, all departments at MobileDemand will be closed on Monday, July 4th and Tuesday, July 5th. We will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, July 6th.

And now for today's history lesson.

Independence Day in the United States, occuring on July 4th, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire.

But did you know that:

  • Independence was actually achieved on July 2nd but Congress did not accept Jefferson's declaration until July 4th.
  • The 4th of July is the "biggest hot dog holiday of the year" with over 155 million of them consumed nationwide.
  • The 4th of July didn't become a federal holiday until 1870.
  • Fireworks were first used to celebrate the holiday in 1777 when Congress chose to celebrate the first anniversary.
  • The population of the United States in 1776 was about 2.5 million. The 2016 U.S. population is estimated at over 322 million.
